Purpose of role
The placement will be six weeks long commencing on Monday 15 July 2024. The internship will be based in our Edinburgh office on a hybrid basis (4 days in the office per week). Burness Paull’s Business Development and Marketing (BD&M) team works across specialist areas of BD and marketing including BD strategy/tactics, events, digital marketing, sponsorships/partnerships, bids/tenders, BD data/insights, brand, graphic design and communications. The BD&M team work with senior lawyers in different practice areas, as well as colleagues across Business Services (HR, IT, Finance etc). This 6-week internship will involve the candidate working with several members of the BD&M team to progress various projects. The work will be varied, with some indication provided below. This will be subject to change depending on the firm’s needs (and our clients’ needs) at the time of the internship. You will be assigned a mentor within your department for day-to-day advice and have the continuing support of the HR team.

Responsibilities:

Business development
Supporting the relevant BD Managers with planning and research relating to opportunities with current and target clients. This could range from helping to organise a client event to researching sectors to relationship mapping.

Bids/tenders
Supporting the Bids Manager in preparing for new bids/tenders. This could involve joining bids team meetings to understand the pipeline; research on the tendering organisation; and supporting the review of lawyer CVs which are used in bids/tenders.

Promotions and sponsorships
Supporting the Marketing Manager with various projects that promote the firm’s values. This could involve proofreading new website copy; helping to coordinate the promotion of the firm’s partnerships; helping to draft ESG/Responsible Business content.

Digital marketing
Supporting the Digital Marketing Manager with drafting social media posts and analysing social media stats.

Client listening
Supporting the Client Insights Executive to manage the firm’s client feedback programme. This could involve analysis of client feedback data; and research to support feedback sessions with clients.

Hours per week: 35
Duration: 6 weeks
Commencing: 15 July 2024
Remote/Office/Hybrid: Hybrid – 4 days per week in office, 1 day (optional) per week from home
Internship Site: Edinburgh
Salary: £420 per week
