My name is Ruth Salako, and I am a recent business and marketing graduate from Edinburgh. These last few months have been rather extraordinary for me. The opportunity to work with some inspiring people has greatly influenced my overall perception of Tesco Bank. Beyond the words on my CV, I now completely understand what teamwork, leadership, excellence, and relationships mean and represent.
My time at Tesco Bank has been quite beneficial as I had just graduated from university and had no prior experience in the financial field. I had no idea Tesco Bank went into such detail with the marketing of its financial services. I rotated among the team, which gave me a good understanding of the business and the important role that everyone performs in delivering value. Tesco Bank has managed to keep me highly involved and engaged, and I could not have hoped for a better experience. I have been completely engaged in the activities at Tesco Bank, from meeting with key players in the organisation to devising social initiatives and attending marketing events with my team. My experience at Tesco Bank would not have been as positive if it had not been for the wonderful people who made the process go so smoothly. My line manager, mentor, team members, and the Diversity & Inclusion team all contributed to my success in the company. Thank you for assisting me in navigating the banking world. I have thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in the business to gain knowledge and experience, as well as bringing a new perspective into the business. People were interested in what I had to say and my thoughts on various stages of the banks process. The company culture was one of the most surprising aspects of my time at Tesco Bank. The culture was increasingly relaxed and welcoming. This, I believed, aided my creativity and willingness to think boldly. If there is one thing, I can take away from Tesco Bank's culture, it is that people are real, courageous, collaborative, and resilient, which enables for growth and personal development. Tesco Bank, as the corporate motto says; aims to help you succeed. This experience has taught me the importance of being able to apply oneself, think through, and have a clear thought process. My principles have been reinforced since joining Tesco Bank, and I am more aware of myself, my purpose, and my abilities. I am energised and ready to push myself even farther, to grow beyond my academics, and to contribute value to all I do.
