At the end of your initial training it is hoped you will be able to undertake a researcher role training placement, working alongside our journalists and senior journalists.
This should include;
- Attending daily online news meetings
- Contributing ideas for stories
- Working with our journalists to gather data and facts
- Working on live pages as part of a bigger team
- Editing pictures
- Writing basic news stories
- Using photoshop to create Instagram posts
The majority of your time with us will be in the office but there could be opportunities to go out with the news gathering team.
What we’re looking for
Being curious and questioning are good traits to have if you want to work in a newsroom. You should be someone who is interested in people’s stories; have an eye for detail and understand there can be many strands and opinions to a single issue. We are looking for someone who is not only willing to learn our established ways of working but also to challenge the norm. Are you someone who can suggest or show better approaches in a fast-paced daily news environment?
Benefits of working with us
The BBC Scotland news website has a huge audience. Our stories are read by millions of people in Scotland and beyond. You can be part of this team which has a wide and important reach.
