Intern Spotlight: A Conversation With Kehinde Comfort Egbanubi — Former BBC Scotland Intern

For this edition of our My Internship Journey series, we sat down with Kehinde Comfort Egbanubi  a storyteller, strategic communicator, and former intern who now works as a Business and Resource Scheduling Coordinator at BBC Scotland.
What followed was an honest, reflective conversation about creativity, confidence and how one internship can change everything.

Here’s our conversation.

“Kehinde, for those who don’t know you yet — who are you beyond the job titles?”

She smiles, thinking for a moment before responding.

“At my core, I’m a creative who loves storytelling. I’ve spent nearly a decade working across digital publishing, corporate communications, and ghostwriting for both fiction and non-fiction books. I also have volunteer experience with the deaf community in Nigeria, which shaped a big part of who I am.”

She shares that she holds an MSc in Strategic Communication and Public Relations  but outside of work, her truest expression is writing.

“I write essays and creative non-fiction on Medium and Substack. That’s where I get to share the stories that don’t always fit into work.”

“Let’s talk about your internship — where did you work, and what was the experience like?”

Her face brightens as she recalls the journey.

“I interned with the Operations Support team at BBC Scotland and it truly was one of the highlights of my career. I contributed to ambitious projects across the BBC, and it helped me discover the parts of the media world I want to build a long-term career in.”

The internship also opened doors beyond her expectations.

“I had the chance to network with leaders across the organisation — those conversations played a huge role in helping me secure my current job.”

“Was there a particular moment that stood out for you?”

She lets out a soft laugh not because it’s funny, but because the memory still feels surreal.

“So many moments stood out, but if I had to pick one… having my story read live to millions of Scottish people. That moment felt bigger than me. It felt like my voice had travelled further than I imagined it could.”

“How did this internship shape your mindset or career direction?”

Her tone shifts to something more thoughtful.

“It gave me confidence again. I’ve always been confident, but after a long period of rejections, I started doubting myself. I worried I’d have to settle for roles I was overqualified for.”

Then she adds:

“The internship — and the feedback I received throughout — helped restore that confidence. It reminded me that I bring real value, and it helped me believe in myself again.”

“What would you tell someone who’s thinking about applying?”

She doesn’t hesitate.

“Please apply. The first win is applying.”

Kehinde speaks passionately about the role BPU played in her journey.

“The support I received from BPU during my application made a huge difference. Even if you don’t get this specific internship, BPU will give you the tools to secure another one. You’re not doing this journey alone.”
