This opportunity is offered through the #BlackInterns program, an initiative of Black Professionals UK (BPU). In collaboration with Shepherd and Wedderburn, it aims to provide valuable professional experience within the legal sector

Purpose of role
Our summer placement will give you the opportunity to work in one of our legal teams for three – six weeks. You’ll also receive high-quality training on a wide range of legal disciplines, delivered by experts in those fields. You will be allocated a ‘buddy’ who will keep in touch daily and help you to get the most from your time with us.
Responsibilities
The teams set out above carry out several tasks. Depending on the team(s) you will work within your responsibilities will include some or all the following:
- Legal Research
- Drafting letters and legal documents
- Compiling documents
- Shadowing solicitors and accompanying them to client meetings
- Project work
- Preparing presentations
- Drafting articles
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who is in their 3rd year or above of their Scots Law LLB (or 1st year or above of their accelerated LLB) or above who has a keen interest in working in a Commercial Law Firm. We require the successful candidate to be open to getting stuck into a wide range of tasks and possess a real can-do attitude. The skills and experience we are looking for include:
- Enthusiasm, accuracy and a sharp eye for detail will be essential.
- Comfortable working as part of a team but also able to perform to your own initiative when required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.
- You’ll be confident in your own judgement and skills, but also able to know when it’s necessary to call upon the help and expertise of others.
- It is essential that you have strong organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a busy and demanding environment to strict timescales will be fundamental.
- We are looking for someone who is flexible and reliable, who has a pro-active “can-do” attitude.
- You should be comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

SALARY: £425 per week
