BBC Scotland Productions is one of the country’s leading creative organisations. Our award-winning teams work across a range of BBC services, including Radio Scotland, Radio nan Gàidheal, network radio, Sounds, BBC1 Scotland, ALBA, the BBC Scotland channel and a range of digital platforms.
We specialise in music, entertainment, events, Gaelic language programming, sport, audio drama, speech and topical radio and digital content. We are also home to the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and a development unit that focuses on securing public service commissions across all platforms.
Purpose of role
This role will offer a chance to get involved in Radio Scotland’s production and studio support. It will provide an excellent opportunity to develop the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and skills within the BBC, with a focus on communication skills, research skills, live studio support and other support administration in radio production.
Responsibilities
- To assist in the planning, production and maintenance of content on a variety of platforms
- To research accurately when producing original content in keeping with editorial brief, using a wide range of sources and reference material in-keeping with audience needs and expectations & adhering to known BBC policies & guidelines
- To set up and maintain information systems for optimal output.
- Suggest, develop and research appropriate ideas and present these to the producer/line manager for feedback and review.
- Sourcing and clearing material for broadcasting and publishing.
- To liaise with contributors, experts and talent, where required.
- Support the senior members of the production team in a wide variety of tasks, including technical/digital by the needs of the production as required.
- To assist in ensuring that output complies with the BBC Health and Safety policy
What we’re looking for
Someone that is interested in Speech Radio programmes across a range of genres including news & current affairs, arts & entertainment, religion, Scotland’s great outdoors and podcasts.
Some who is willing to turn their hand to a variety of tasks, work as part of small production teams , possess a real ‘can-do’ attitude, a willingness to learn and the motivation and flexibility to embrace a variety of tasks.

REPORTING TO: Heather Kane-Darling, Exec Editor and Speech & Topical Senior Producers depending on programme placement.
Hours per week: 35
Duration: 12 weeks
Commencing: March 2024
Remote/Office/Hybrid: Mostly office based – a mix of morning/day shifts will be required as per the production and studio requirements
TRAINING BURSARY: £21,085 gross per annum pro rata
