Purpose of role
Our Year in Industry placements provide the chance to gain hands-on experience while contributing to real work across our SP Energy Networks and Renewables business areas. The programme welcomes talented A-Level/Higher/Adv. Higher school leavers, undergraduates and graduates to partake in a 12-month full time paid placement experiencing real life exposure to the STEM industry. You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues, build valuable skills and contribute to work that truly makes a difference. Many of our Year in Industry placement students go on to secure graduate roles with us, so a placement can be a fantastic way to launch your career.
Responsibilities
During your placement, you’ll be involved in a variety of activities including engineering project support, technical analysis, problem-solving and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. You’ll also work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to live projects, and take part in masterclasses, corporate inductions, internal events and volunteering days. These are great development opportunities designed to strengthen your skills and broaden your understanding and experience while contributing to real work across our SP Energy Networks and Renewables business areas.
What we’re looking for
To be considered for this Year in Industry placement, you must:
- Be a school leaver, undergraduate, or recent graduate looking to gain practical, full‑time experience in an engineering or technical function
- Have an interest in developing skills in:
- Electrical/ Electronic engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Structural engineering
- Civil engineering
- Technical analysis and problem solving
- Have a keen interest in the Renewables sector
- Be confident using Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word
- Bring strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders
- Have a solid understanding of technical principles and an enthusiasm for applying them in a real-world environment‑world environment
- Be organised, proactive and motivated to learn

Hours per week: 35 hours
Duration: 12 Months
Commencing: 7th September 2026
Remote/Office/Hybrid: Either in our HQ in Glasgow or in offices in Prenton in the Northwest of England
SALARY: £25,950
