The placement  

The role will involve dealing with a wide range of support activities including: 

  • Supporting the in-house and external productions within the building and on outside broadcasts (OB’s) 
  • Booking and paying freelancers 
  • Communicating changes promptly to all staff  
  • Approving leave, travel, and accommodation 
  • Updating in-house scheduling systems with hours worked 
  • Providing support to the team with studio runner and driver duties. 

 Purpose of Placement 

The purpose of this internship is for the individual to gain experience in an entry level role within the BBC and build on their existing skill set. It will give the successful intern an authentic experience by providing them with introduction to a career path within the broadcasting industry, its duties, and daily operations. If the intern enjoys their internship, this might indicate that their career is on the right path. 

 Responsibilities 

The placement will be adapted to the successful candidate’s strengths and areas of interest which could range from: 

  • Provide scheduling support including processing timesheets, running business reports and providing holiday cover. 
  • Assisting in putting through freelance and casual staff payments and sales orders using the in-house payment system. 
  • Check freelance expenses and process timesheets in a timely manner. 
  • Conduct reasonable requests made that are within the broad remit of the role such as booking taxis and hotels as per program requirements and up-dating crew lists. 
  • Supporting the team with studio runner duties as required. 

 What we are looking for 

Essential skills and experience: 

  • Has a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent decision-making, resilience, interpersonal and organisational skills. 
  • Consistently demonstrates effective collaboration skills with team members and other stakeholders. 
  • Effective communication skills and awareness of how to tailor communications to different audiences / different purposes for internal and external contacts. 
  • Proficient computer skills with strong experience of office software packages (i.e., Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, and scheduling/production meetings).  
  • The ability to deal confidently, discreetly, and tactfully with members of staff, ensuring that the BBC Respect at Work policy and BBC values is always adhered to. 
  • Ability to use own initiative with minimal supervision and deal with routine queries as they arise, escalating to others, as necessary. 

 This placement may involve working evening and weekends.

REPORTING TO: Felicity Lynch (Operations Manager) / Fiona Lawrie (Business Coordinator) 

HOURS PER WEEK: 21 Hours. 

Working days; preferably Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Flexible working can be discussed at time of the interview.  

Duration: 20 weeks.  

Commencing: January 2025 – date to be discussed 

Office – To get the most out of this opportunity this role will be based in the Glasgow Pacific Quay Head office. 

TRAINING BURSARY: £22,488 gross per annum pro rata
